Ashtanga Vinyasa is a conscious effort to train the mind to be fully present by controlling the body, breath and mind in one harmonious moment. The physical postures in AVY are knit together with careful attention to the breath and the practitioner’s point of focus. However, there is much more to AVY than bending, folding & twisting your body. It is a body awareness technique aimed at liberating your consciousness from old, habitual ways of thinking, being and acting. The physical postures produce the added side effects of cleansing the body, ridding practitioners of unwanted fat and healing old injuries. AVY asks tightness to bend and softness to be strong. It challenges the limits of the mind and the body beyond popular medical notions of safety, possibility and comfort. This dynamic flowing series of postures was introduced by its living master teacher, or Guru, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.
Our Pilates exercises will focus on immense precision and control, with a strong emphasis on technique and core strength. This class is a great round off at the end of the week to your cardio circuit and functional training classes at the Studio. Improve flexibility, posture and body alignment and core strength (flat abs and a strong back). In addition, barefoot training helps strength your feet and ankles, improving balance and proprioception, thereby optimizing movement efficiency.
This extremely fun dance fitness workout incorporates a lot of routines that will improve your cardiovascular system, which is extremely helpful in your fight to lose that unwanted weight. At the same time, you will tone your body to the rhythm of the music, engaging your muscles to make some specific moves like squats and twists.
Every week, our instructor will take you through a different and challenging workout. HIIT, TRX, Strength & Conditioning and Circuit Training will be the formats each week on a rotational basis. Expect high intensity, your cardiovascular endurance, core and strength to be tested and worked on for improved performance overall. Expect lots of calories off in this one.
Aerial Silk builds unparalleled upper body and core strength, kineasthetic awareness, coordination, and confidence. Beginners will learn basic climbs, foot locks, hip keys, and sequences starting low to the ground on aerial fabric. Knot and sling work will introduce inversions and wraps. More advanced students will learn beautiful transitions, sequences, and eventually drops on the aerial fabric.
"Vinyasa" means to synchronize breath with movement; a vinyasa class is usually a flow-style class where one moves from one asana to another at a steady rhythm. Lamya's vinyasa flow starts with a slow warm up and moves into a challenging standing practice sequence. She includes inversions and pranyamas in all her classes. With an Iyengar background, she focuses greatly on alignment and form. Expect to feel strong, nourished, balanced and relaxed
Aerial Fitness is a combination of yoga, pilates, acrobatics and dance with the use of a hammock. It is suggested that in addition to the emotional, physical and spiritual benefits of all yoga practice, Aerial Fitness has particular benefits for strengthening and stretching the whole body, decompressing the spine, improving circulation, boosting digestion and lifting one's mood.
